A Heartfelt Thank You to Tesher for Supporting Newcomer Women in Regina
We were deeply moved — and genuinely surprised — to learn that Tesher, the internationally celebrated artist and proud Regina native, selected the Regina Immigrant Women Centre (RIWC) as his charity of choice on Bell Media’s Battle of the Generations.
Even more incredible: he won, and generously donated the full $25,000 prize to support our work.
This is the single largest public donation we’ve received since becoming a registered charity just two years ago, and we are beyond grateful.
Tesher’s gift will allow us to expand vital wraparound supports that are often left out of traditional grant funding — supports like childminding, transportation, and food, which help ensure more women can fully participate in our language classes, employment training, and community programs. These services are key to helping newcomer women and families feel safe, supported, and empowered as they build new lives in Saskatchewan.
We didn’t know Tesher had chosen the Regina Immigrant Women Centre until shortly before the episode aired — and we were floored. To be seen and supported by someone with deep roots in Regina, who understands the importance of our work, is incredibly meaningful.
From all of us at RIWC — staff, volunteers, and the many newcomer women and families we serve — thank you, Tesher. Your generosity not only helps sustain our programming, it also sends a powerful message across Canada: that the voices and futures of immigrant women matter.
We hope to welcome you to the Centre one day, show you around, and share what your support has made possible.
With gratitude,
The RIWC Team
